It is not easy to enter this mansion, located in the center of Moscow. Because this place is owned by Institute for African Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences. Which means that without a permission you are not welcome. But I did all the bureaucratic work for you. So now you can make a virtual excursion inside one of the coolest houses in Moscow.     Continue reading

Mont Saint Michel: against the flow

Here it is: gloomy, mystical and grandiose. The spear of medieval town scratches the sky. But the bottom is surrounded by water and quicksand. This is how my geographical dream looks like. It is called Mont Saint Michel. Continue reading

I never wanted to go to Baku, until Zaha Hadid created her statement building in Azerbaijan’s capital. The futuristic construction situated not in the very center. But it makes people travel out of the historical part, also beyond Soviet way of thinking.  Continue reading

“No dog, please!” – I asked my waiter in the restaurant. I showed her hieroglyph to make sure they will not cook a dog for me. The waiter smiled and opened the menu. Every single meal on the page contained familiar character. Continue reading

Jim FitzPatrick and Natalia Maiboroda

Today, when Irish people celebrate St. Patrick’s Day, I would like to write about Patrick. But not the one you might think of. About Jim FitzPatrick – famous Irish artist. You definitely know one of his works – the legendary poster of Che Guevara – the black and white image on the red background. Jim was the one who reproduced the picture of Cuban photographer Alberto Korda on paper. You know the rest – this particular image became a symbol of world revolution. Continue reading

Moscow: into the wild emotions

The word “genesis” means origin. In the first book of the biblical scriptures called “The book of Genesis”, this term refer to creation of the Earth. Legendary Magnum photographer Sebastiao Salgado called his exhibition “Genesis” to show us Earth like it used to be in old times. With his work he makes us back to the roots. But isolated places on Salgado’s photographs do not scare with its wildness. For me they rather reflect the background of Brazilian-born photographer – pure and emotional.

The sunrise in Istanbul

1

The Istanbul’ sky must be cut with planes. This thought stroke me when we landed, while watching numerous flight lights from my cabin window. The air traffic is so massive here. But you don’t notice any cuts in the sky in the city. Maybe because the sky is the last you notice when wondering in labyrinth of narrow streets. Even standing on the bridge your attention is focused on Bosphorus – always busy with boat traffic. But not with sky. Continue reading

When it comes to Switzerland, imagination brings to mind pacify picture without rush or over-hastiness. In a country, where time has stopped, they build a machine to accelerate the pace. I visited the world’s largest particle collider – Large Hadron Collider – just before it has restarted since long pause.

Patagonia: Fifty shades of blue

44 hours from Buenos Aires by bus and you are in the tip of Argentina – chilly and severe land. In other words, in small town El Calafate, which is situated closer to Antarctica than to the capital. This place is so isolated from the rest of the country, that you can easily describe it as being “in the middle of nowhere”. El Calafate lives off tourism due to world-famous attraction called Perito Moreno. This breathtaking glacier is just 80 km away.
